Noise + Thirst
Video installation 2018
How can blackness escape the imposition of everyone else’s imagination? Noise + Thirst is a video and sound composition featuring Black men recalling their first time realizing they were visibly Black, visibly Male and how those identifiers have caused a ripple in the ways they are perceived in the world. Noise + Thirst is a collectione of childhood memories, encounters with danger, and a collective processing of traumas that presents Blackness and maleness as an inhabitant of contradiction. The sound composition, a gestalt of Black masculinity, explores the spaces between noise & silence and thirst & satisfaction.
